SharePoint 2013 Alternate Access Mappings not working

I have been tasked with building a new SharePoint 2013 server from scratch. We have an old SharePoint server but there are so many issues and pages that haven't been used in years we've decided to just build anew.

I am trying to configure Alternate Access Mappings to access the Sharepoint page with sharepoint.domain.com but I cannot get it working at all.

The only way I can access SharePoint is to go through the direct URL of http://Server/sites/SharePoint/_layouts/15/start.aspx#/

I have looked at my old SharePoint page and everything is duplicated the same with sharepoint.domain.com being in the intranet zone, I also added it to the internet zone to see if anything would work.

When I try and load it in IE I get to a HTTP404 not found page.

When I load it in Firefox I get the following message:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: Microsoft-IIS/8.5 Date: Thu, 15 Dec 2016 18:54:03 GMT Connection: close

I tried adding the host name into the IIS Site Bindings but still not working.

I also have a record in my DNS pointing to sharepoint.domain.com

Someone please help
