Resizing C: in windows server 2008R2

We have hit a point with one of our servers  where the C: drive is constantly full, and i have decided to go ahead and resize the partition. I found a few good reads online on what needs to be done and it's looking like i will need to backup the D: drive and remove it before i can resize. I am just looking for if this is the best way to go about this issue and what i can expect to go wrong. attached is a SS of Disk0.

Trying to come up with the best way to re-insert the data as well, without being down for hours waiting on that part..I wonder if i can mount a storage craft backup image as a permanent drive and just assign D to it?
