How to increase the vm disk space and retain the existing content?

This is using Citrix XenServer 6.1. We have 5 xen hosts. However, one of the VM is running out of space. From the XenCenter, found that the host in which this VM is located, still got few hundred GB available space. I know that the VM has to be down, and then there is an option allowed to increase the disk space to the max of the available. However, my question is, does increasing the disk space keep the existing data content? Otherwise, what would be other way to increasing the VM existing disk space?

Thanks in advance.

if your storage has free space it's simple mostly.
first: you should create a backup (copy VM or export VM)
next you can adjust assigned hdd size within xencenter.
after starting the VM you can go to storage manager (within VM) and increase the partition size.
thats all ... mostly ...
in rare circumstances you have to use diskpart to correct the partition assignment now.

Thanks for Expert Shaun in providing the suggestion. It works, and after increasing the disk size in xenserver, the only steps need to be done is go to the windows disk manager, right-click and select "extend volume", and then select all the newly available disk space. That's so.
