Cisco 2911/Etherswitch: Bringing up SVI and not seeing vlan on one side of trunk
I have a Cisco 2911 ISR with a trunk on port Gi1/0. The 2911 routes traffic from data vlan 1 and voice vlan 2 no problem. I added a third vlan to the etherswitch - vlan 10 which I put on an interface facing an MPLS provider. I added an SVI to the 2911 "interface vlan 10" with IP address 192.168.40.1. The problem is - I can't get this SVI to come out of down status.
The trunk on the 2911 side is Gi1/1. On the 2911 side "show interface gi 1/1" shows no sign of vlan 10 while "show interface gi 0/17 trunk" on the etherswitch side shows all three vlans 1, 2 and 10 allowed and forwarding. One of the ports on the etherswitch is UP and is an access port for vlan 10. I'm not sure what else I'm missing to get the SVI on the router up. Any thoughts appreciated.

Could I assign vlan 10 to a loopback addresson 2911 for the same effect?
The thing that's puzzling is that VLAN 1 and 2 are not on a physical interface. So I don't recall how those became
active on the trunk (although 1 is likely there by default) nor how the SVIs became active.

I got it working but I didn't need to add the vlan to a physical interface. Your last sentence however of just add the vlan to the device was exactly right.

That's all that needed to be done and that is typically how VLAN is created.
# vlan 10
:)
You are welcome.
# vlan 10
Creating SVI for VLAN 10 will not create VLAN 10 on device, adding physical port to VLAN 10 will create it.Was just explanation why VLAN 10 was not automatically created.
:)
You are welcome.
