Looking for good easy switch for lab at home.

Hi,

I plan to mount a ESXi lab at home and I'm looking for an easy good switch with a minimum of configuration available (tag, create vlan, etc.). I will also use the same switch for my personal usage (laptop, media, printer).

This is what it looks like:

- 2 ESXi hosts lab
- 1 NAS
- 2 MAC use by family
- 1 printer
- 1 pc

So a minimum of 8 ports or more. I need to be able to create different vlan and tag it. I'm not network expert that why I'm look for something easy for a IT guy.

I would recommend the HP Procurve 1810G-24, low power switch, green energy rated, no internal fans so it's not noisy, relative inexpensive 24 port hub, which supports Jumbo Frames, VLANS, SNMP, Web GUI Interface or SSH/Telnet.

or the 8 port version is 1810G-8

The 8 port has the same interface, features and software.

Lifetime warranty, and we use them extensively in our labs.

HP Procurve also have a lifetime guarantee, compared to Cisco units.

Are you sure? It might be worth checking the datasheet I linked above...
Cisco Limited Lifetime Hardware Warranty - Cisco!

whether you pick, HPE, Cisco, NetGear, D-Link, all work well.

Just make sure you get one which is low power, unless you want noisy fans, as switches can get very hot and noisy, the units designed for commercial racks!
