Reset Root Password on CentOS 6

I need to reset the root password on the PC which is used for the Voicemail and Auto Attendant system for our Phone System.

i am trying to follow the guide HERE however when I go to the grub menu there are two options listed. The boot options set are,

</rootvol LANG=en_US.UTF-8 rd_NO_DM rhgb quiet biosdevicename=0

have tried putting "1" at the end of each one (and also after the 'quiet' as described in the article) and booting as described. all that happens is the system starts to load does a file system check, saying that there are "Duplicate or Bad Blocks in use".

The system continues to load until it gets to a point in the attached image. User generated image
As you can see it is just asking for the root PW which I dont know. I need the PW to try and fix the filesystem error which is halting the boot process.

I am not an expert by any means with Linux so Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Boot from a live distro disk. Then mount the root partition and delete the "x" from the line with root in /etc/passwd.
Reboot, boot from your system and the root password will be empty.
