Lots of browser tabs open affecting system performance - bad habit

I often have lots of browser tabs open, as many as 60-70 in my chrome browser both at work and at home.  This is not good for many reasons including information overload, productivity and computer memory issues.

Which broswers are generally more resources intensive if one was to have many tabs open?  I used to use Firefox many years ago but then mvoed to Chrome.  I use both a mac and windows PC.

I heard that chrome is the worst at handling things like this.
I agree with Eoin.  With that many tabs open, I don't think you will be able to tell the difference between the browsers.

I already use session buddy to manage them but mainly for when I exit and reload the tabs after restarting.
Yes, that is a good one. If you use it with named sessions, you might be able to keep the number of open browser tabs much lower without really loosing anything.

I have 4gb ram on my mac book air and 16gb on other computers where I do the same thing.

The suggestion of the plug in "The great suspender" - I think Chrome does this automatically already?  When I click on a tab that has not been used in a while, it is blank and then reloads.

Yes it does impede it - I have to resize the screen to widen it to increase the tab widths to access them! :-)

How do I switch to caching on the SSD?  My other computers with higher RAM work much better for obvious reasons.
