Changing settings for Outlook from NTLM to Negotiate. Are there any pitfalls?

Hello everyone,
We are doing Windows 10 migration for the customer from source domain to the target as well as remediation for Exchange. They have a non-standard configuration for Exchange and use NTLM instead of Negotiate for Outlook.

We have an issue with this nonstandard configuration and when computer migrates to the target, we get this Outlook error.
"Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window.
Before you can use this Outloook data file (.ost), you must connect to Microsoft Exchnage with the current profile and synchronize your folders at least once"

We found a possible resolution to this issue. All we needed to change was the authentication setting to Negotiate and Outlook started up just fine.  Also, when we changed it back to NTLM is still worked and Outlook started up fine, it just seems that the first initial connection is an issue for some reason.

Customer said that they can set this option through GPO and see if that resolves the initial connection issue, unless there is a better way to do it or find the root cause.

Are there any pitfalls (known or potential) that we may run into by changing the configuration  in the source and destination domains?

We tested and it resolved the error but client wants a confirmation that there are no issues they might encounter in the future..

Please advise.

Thank you very much!
