Server 2012 R2 updates

Hello,

We have server 2012 R2.  When trying to update the server, it hangs at "Preparing to install updates"  I have tried restarting the update service and rebooting the system.  I simply cant seem to get passed this.  Any help would be great.  Thank you so much.

  1. Stop Windows Update service and BITS
  2. Delete content in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
  3. Restart

Hello Shaun,

I had already tried that I guess I should have been more specific.  Even after doing this, it just sits on "preparing to install updates" for days.  I let it sit for 72 hours to no avail.

if you look at %windir%/WindowsUpdate.log, does it reveal anything useful?  (Any Errors or Warnings, especially towards the end of the file?)
