Change reply to address in Office 365

I have a new user to whom we've giving a user logon and email address that conforms to our standard. However, because of her position, she'd prefer it to have all of her last name. I have attempted to add that new address and set it to the reply address in EAC, but I get an error message that I can't do that because it's being synced with our on-premise environment. We do have AD locally and we're still in a hybrid mode, although her email box is in the O365 cloud. I found an article that said I needed to change the Proxyaddresses in AD. So I went there and added the new email address with the SMTP tag instead of smtp and I save it. Enough time has passed so that it should have synced. However, I still do not see it in the EAC for her mailbox and if I try and make the change, I still get the same error.  Is there  away I can do this without tearing down her whole account and rebuilding it?

Thanx... didn't need it, but it probably would have worked.
