Can I recover e-mails in an Outlook 2010 pst file that has not been compressed?
A friend says that he had over 20,000 e-mails in an Outlook folder called "Save Emails". All e-mail December 20, 2016 and earlier are missing. Now there only appears to be e-mail from December 21st to the present, in that folder. He said that he had not deleted them. The outlook.pst file is 11 gigabytes in size.
I did run a repair using scanpst.exe on the outlook.pst file. However, the missing e-mails are still missing in the "Saved Emails" folder.
Is there a way to recover the contents of the entire outlook.pst file, which has not been compressed?
Any other thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

If not archived (double check to be certain) and the emails have been deleted and not in the deleted items folder, then they are gone.

I will check this evening when I go to visit my friend. Thank you for the tips.

Thank you Clark for providing a link to "Outlook PST file Recovery software to recover permanently deleted items from PST ". I will keep that link, because I am sure it will come in handy in the future.
Thank you John for giving me ideas where to search in Outlook, specifically checking for the archiving of e-mails.
I appreciate the help that both of you have provided.

Oh, I forgot to tell you what happened last evening when I checked out my friend's computer. In examining Outlook, archiving was not enabled. Nor was "empty deleted items folder when exiting Outlook" enabled. Since my friend said that he had not deleted any e-mails prior to December 20th, they had to be some where. Well, there were thousands of e-mails in the Sent items folder, and thousands of emails in the Inbox folder.
Sorting the Inbox folder by "Received" date, e-mail dating back to 2002 to the present were found!
Evidently, my friend had "moved" or "dragged" e-mails from the "Saved Emails" folder, to his Inbox.
He is very happy they have been found!
