Can't connect to new installation of SQL Server 2016

I know I am just doing something stupid her, but i haven't worked with 2016 until today.

its a fressh install of SQL Server 2016 standard SP1 on a fresh install of Server 2016 standard.

Everything installed fine, no errors. but no real configurable options during the install either.

I downloaded SQL server Manager, and get:

Login failed for user SERVER\Administrator' (Microsoft SQL SERVER , Error: 18456)

I am on the server, logged in as the local administrator. I don't believe there is a default SA account.

Just confirming you're using windows authentication when you use the server\administrator option?  Also are you coming from the same box or a different client computer?  If you're on a different computer check the configuration settings and make sure tcp/ip and named pipes are enabled.

Also default instance or a different port?

Just throwing stuff out there as there's not much to go on.
