CRM 2011 - Refreshing the Development Server from the Production Server

We get requests a few times a year to refresh our Development server with the Production organization.  We get it done but it is often a problematic and painful experience.

Because our environments reside on four different domains (AD01/PROD, AD02/DEV, AD03/UAT and AD04/PREPROD) we seem to get problems.

The AD01 domain contains the Production servers including the Microsoft CRM Application Server, Microsoft SQL Server and Reporting Server.

The AD02 domain contains the Development servers including the Microsoft CRM Application Server, Microsoft SQL Server and Reporting Server.

When we use Deployment Manager to perform a clone of the Production organization (AD01) to the Development organization (AD02), our guids get mixed up or duplicated.

We also have problems with the four AD groups that are created during installation (SQLAccessGroup, PrivUserGroup, PrivReportingGroup and, ReportingGroup).  For example the SQLAccessGroup from AD01 does not always work well when moved to AD02.

When not crossing over domains (e.g. clone AD02/APP1 to AD02/APP2), the procedure outlined by Microsoft works fine

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for confirming that AD groups are not needed to clone from Production to Development.  The clone is functioning as expected.
