Partially Migrating from On-Premise CRM 4.0 and Exchange 2010 to the Cloud

Hi
We run MS CRM 4,0 and MS Exchange 2010 on premise. We've added customisations into CRM 4 and the effort to upgrade to CRM 2016 seems a pain (you need to upgrade to each iteration and test and fix before going to the next version). The business has changed since we created those customisations and we don't need them now. We are a small company and I'm willing to have a clean start - so I plan to mothball my on-premise CRM 4 (keep it for history) and start with a brand new clean CRM Online installation. But I'd like to keep my on-premise Exchange 2010, at least for the moment.

Can I do this? Can I have Exchange 2010 on-premise and have it linked to a new CRM Online instance?

When I read the instructions for registering for CRM Online (http://aka.ph/2iXaxxo) they say that I need to provide a domain name. I'd like to retain my primary domain name coming in to my on-premise Exchange 2010. So do I just use another domain name that we own as the login for the CRM Online, or will that cause problems with the link to the on-premise Exchange 2010?

My long term plan is to go to Exchange 2016 and CRM Online but I just have a few obstacles to achieving this in the short term.

Apologies for all of the questions and hopefully it makes sense.

Thanks for the links Kevin.

Any ideas about the domain name question?
Is there any update?
Hi
Thanks for the comments, I appreciate your time. After speaking to some CRM & Exchange experts we are going to migrate Exchange & CRM up into the Office 365 and Dynamics 365 cloud.
