How to restore security permissions on a file server
I accidentally reset permissions from the root of a drive that contain my users folders for a file server. I have the server backed up. How can I restore the security permissions for these folders? My file server is a Windows 2000 machine.
It has been a long time since I used Server 2000. I think you must go back and setup permissions by user again.
I don;t know what kind of backup software you have.
Most of 3rd party backup software restoring all permissions to same location for same users.
If you have backup, just restore backup. All user permissions should be restored too.

You have to assess which is better for you. You said you had a back up so we know you can use that . But you may be able to restore permissions if not too many users.
