Server 2012 Standard to Server 2012 R2 Upgrade

Can you upgrade Server 2012 to 2012 R2 for free or do you need a new license? If not, i have a problem. I have a DC running R2 EVAL. I have a 2012 Standard license. What is the easiest way to downgrade the DC? Do I just build a new DC with my 2012 (non R2) license and replicate with my other DC?

Did you purchase software assurance (SA) with the Server 2012 license?

Yeah... I'd build a new DC and replicate to it.... with the following caveats/details:
  • Make certain the forest and domain functional levels are Windows Server 2012 (not R2) before you attempt to promote the new DC.  (I honestly don't know if you can downgrade the functional levels if the domain was built at the 2012 R2 level.)
  • Move all the FSMO roles to the new DC before retiring the old.
