Send automatic reply to outside email address via Outlook 2013 or Exchange 2013 ECP
I've a user who wants to send an automatic reply to any emails received, but not if it's an internal email address.
We've tried out of office but that does internal and external
I've tried creating rule but that doesn't work either
Maybe someone can point me in the right direction
Cheers
Ian.

Do you have Outlook Web Access (OWA) you can set it up from there as there is option "Do not send to internal user"

Hi Emmanuel
We do indeed have OWA - I can't seem to locate the "Do not send to internal user" - go you give me so more details?

To enable auto reply to external, you must enable this option on "default" domain at "accepted domain" tab
Then you can create the outlook rules. To prevent auto reply for internal user, you are depending on outlook rules

Hi Ian,
If you want to send autoreply messages to external senders then you should have 'Remote Domain' for the domains you wish to send auto-replies.
you can add Remote domains using New-RemoteDomain cmdlet.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997639(v=exchg.150).aspx
once you are done with adding part, then you need to set some parameters inorder to send auto-replies.
Set-RemoteDomain "new_remote_domain" -AutoReplyEnabled $true –AllowedOOFType $ExternalLegacy
-AutoReplyEnabled parameter enable us to send automatic replies to external senders.
-AllowedOOFType is a multi option parameter , it will take External, ExternalLegacy, Internal, InternalLegacy and None as the options.
you can also restrict the message type using 'Remote Domains' by specifying the parameter ' ContentType'.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124931(v=exchg.141).aspx
once you are done with Remote domains, just check the configurations using ,
Get-RemoteDomain "New_remote_domain" | fl Name, Domainname, AllowedOOFType, AutoReplyEnabled
Then you create Rule to send automatic replies to external senders.
