VMWare P2V of 2008 R2 Domain Controller

Hi experts

I am in the process of running some P2V conversations for a client of some older servers from physical hardware onto their VMWare infrastructure.

They are currently running VMWare 5.5 (moving to 6 shortly)

Am happy enough moving their app servers over. However, I need to P2V their two Domain Controllers and I want to be sure that I do not break their domain in doing so.

Any one out there have any tips or tricks or advice?

Thanks
Mark

It's not a good practice run DC as virtual specially when host computer is part of same domain.
You need to understand that if case of reboot host computer will be online without connection to DC, so you may have some authentication issues.

Maybe is going to be better if you'll promote Host to become DC before you'll decide convert other DC to VM

Thanks

Tom - VMWare infrastructure using Shared Storage so I do not have host reboot/shutdown as concern

Andrew - thanks for article. Very helpful. Will test over coming days.

Thanks
