Exchange 2007: Possible to give domain email account access to a non-domain user?

We have some external contractors which do not have any access to the internal network.
I have been asked if it is possible to set them up with domain email accounts without giving them access to the internal network.

As far as I know, there is always a need to have at the very least a domain user account to access the mailbox.

As far as accessing without connecting to the network, the only thing I know of would be configuring Outlook Web Access with an external URL they could use.

Are there other options?

No other option, you know the answer. User ID is key to your locker. Without keep you cannot open the locker.
You could create a user group for "externals" and give them permissions for e-mail services only.

Ok, definitely need domain user accounts for them.
What about email access?
The usual way is to have someone connecting into the network and then open Outlook...is there a way for them to access their mailboxes without connecting to the network directly?
Can Outlook Web Access be set up for external access for only these accounts so they don't need network access?
