Virtualize old XP PC

hey guys,

I have an old XP PC that i need to keep around. I'd like to convert it to a VM, which i know i can do with the converter. Now once the converter is complete. Do i just use vmware player to run the image? How does this part work?

Yes. Or you can add a new VM computer in Hyper-V

If it is an OEM XP license, you can't convert it, as the license won't be valid and the system won't activate. In such a situation it is better to just install XP mode in your Windows 7 Pro PC. That is already a VirtualPC VM os XP, and it is free. You can officially convert XP-Mode to VMware  Workstation Player using VMware's Converter Standalone. It is relatively simple to do, XP-Mode gets imported to VMware Workstation Player and should just run. If your XP OS is not OEM, it would work the same.
Do not convert it with Virtual Computer tools.
