Hi we use proofpoint for a fair number of our clients. As all the filtering is done externally of the exchange server we can fully manage the spam coming through and keep it to clean emails coming through. We also allow end users to manage their own spam levels.

Dear Sulo,

I have googled proofpoint and it shows that it is a company not a spam filter, but I wanted to be helped on spam filter suitable for running hosted exchange which is hosting mailboxes for other domains
You can use any solution like Symentec.Cloud which will do the email filtering.

https://www.symantec.com/products/threat-protection/email-security-cloud

or Mailguard http://www.mailguard.com.au

There are several providers in the market for spam, virus and ransomware prevention. I am only giving the above companies as examples.

The solution will work as follows. The provider will give you the MX records and you update them in your Domain portal. So emails will go to the provider first and once the emil is filtered, you will get it via your edge server.

Hopefully this helps
We provide this service for other companies providing hosted email in Africa from our South African based service. If you want we can put you in touch with companies either in Botswana or South Africa selling our email security service which sits in front of your hosted Exchange. We don't have a Malawi based partner.

There are quite a few choices available, but my first choice wold be SpamTitan by TitanHQ.

Good spam capture rates, highly competitive pricing, easy to implement and low maintenance, plus the customer service is excellent if you do have a problem. Set up is really easy. You just need to change your MX record.

You can read a bit more about the product on this link, which explains how it can work as an exchange 2010 spam filter. The post talks about Exchange 2013, but it will work on Exchange 2010 as well.
