Why does my computer not boot?
I have a Dell Precision Tower 5810 running Windows 7 Professional X64. Everything was normal until I powered it up today, only to find a blank screen. I tried to boot from a DVD to no avail. I can hear two short beeps during power-up. I ran the Dell ePSA Pre-boot System Assessment and no errors were found.

I changed the bot order to put the DVD first, I hit F12 to bring up the boot menu and selected the DVD, but then the system booted into Windows normally. It did not boot from the DVD, but booted from the SSD instead. Why is that?

Hello, DoctorK12008!
Please refer to the Dell Precision Tower 5810 Owner's Manual, pages 57-59 and report back what the diagnostic LED light shows.

I am not sure. It could have been something in how the BIOS works on that machine.
Put the BIOS back to SSD, close out, shut down, start up. Does it boot?

If your SECURE BOOT is ON then Computer is loading Windows 10 boot manager as priority.
If you want to boot from CD/DVD. go to BIOS and disable secure boot first

I loaded default boot and now it works fine. There are no LEDs seen during boot-up, so I guess this means everything is normal. There were no LED's visible even when the system did not boot.

Thank you. I had visions of having to replace the motherboard or some such torture. Thanks again.
/me chuckles. Actually I had thoughts like this too. So I am glad you are up and running!

Hi, John:
Unfortunately, it did it again. This time I could only get into setup, would not even boot from DVD. Dell replaced the motherboard today under warranty. Happy again!

Thanks for the additional update. I am glad a new board finally fixed this for you.
Can you get to BIOS, then change the Boot Order putting DVD at the start? Then try again restarting with a DVD.
