NAS - HP DataVault X510 and Windows Home Server

The X510 Data Vault lost connection and when I attempted to repair it using the repair disk, the PC was unable to connect to the X510  Data Vault. I had followed instructions and connected the X510 Data Vault direct by ethernet to the PC.

So I reset the X510 Data Vault by using a paperclip until the right hand side light was blinking purple.

I then attempted to run Windows Home Server Connector Setup but it could not find the X510 Data Vault.

All antivirus (Windows Defender/Panda/Malwarebytes/Microsoft Security Essentials) were turned off or uninstalled.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Greg

When you reset the NAS, it would have a default IP address. Ping the default IP . What answer do you get?

Hi John,

I'm not sure if ipconfig does what you ask, but the screengrab of this is attached.
It appears that the IPv4 address is 169.254.40.138.

Thanks,

Greg

Is that IPCONFIG of your computer or the NAS?

If the NAS, it is not getting an IP address from anything.

If the computer, it is not connected to anything.

But I think we surmised as much,  so from the Computer, open cmd.exe and then PING the default NAS address (your documentation should tell you that).

169.254.x.x is the autoconfig no connection IP.
Thanks.
When I ping HPSTORAGE the response is
"Ping request could not find HPSTORAGE. Please check name and try again."
The networking in the NAS box appears to have died. At this point, you need to contact HP support (because you have reset it once). You can always try another full reset, but it seems to have developed a hardware problem.
I pinged it again with the server name I used and it returned:

I then restarted Windows Home Server Connector Setup.
It opened the window showing:

Downloading software from your home server BACKUP, 0% complete.

But it then opened another window:

The files were not downloaded from your home server.
Please verify that your network connection is active an that your Windows Home Server is powered on. The restart the Wizard.

I did check that everything was an and restarted WHS Connector setup - same result.

if i unplug the ethernet cable - there is no response to the ping.
what address should be returned?
Thanks
Thanks. I am back after a night's sleep. Address should probably be something like 192.168.1.x
Thanks John.

I am uncertain what occurred. But it is now connecting.

I know only enough to be dangerous.

Thanks again,

Greg
