NTFS permissions - creator owner

Hello

I am in need of some advice.
We have a local windows 7 machine that supports multiple accounts with different users utilising it at different times.

I am trying to setup a folder where all users can write to the folder however I want to prevent the users from modifying other user's files. The users all need to be able to view the files I just don't want them to edit them unless they own or created the file.

The only way I could get it to work was to allow users the write permission and disabled the special permission create folder/append data. This has worked to some degree however I'm sure it isn't the correct way to do this task.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you for your time

John

Thank you for corroborating.

I spent a day playing about with the permissions after the clarification and developed a firm grasp of the permissions

Thank you for the help.
