New Exchange Setup, Best Practice
Have the opportunity to set up a completely new domain (single level) with Exchange 2016. I am looking at different email requirements and trying to figure out what will have the most redundancy in the long run.
Right now I see the initial install in the fairly standard manner:
Cloud -> Antispam/AV -> Site A -> Exchange
Since there is a second site, I see the future as adding a second Exchange server in Site B. Would like to ensure mail delivery continues to Site B users if the internet at Site A goes down.
Assuming Ex2016 can handle this, what is the best way to set this up? Both servers at the same time, or can I add site B later without creating a lot of additional work? I am assuming the AS/AV gateway will be in the cloud as well.

Well, that is strange... I wrote a response and it never showed up.
Thanks for the links. There is a lot of information out there, so finding something relevant proved to be a challenge. I have worked with Exchange in the past, but never done an install on this scale (~800 users).
The business did a cost analysis on hosted Exchange vs on prem and since the infrastructure and personnel to manage it already exist, there was no advantage to cloud. Although a hybrid solution has not been ruled out as of yet.

Thanks Aaron, I appreciate your input. This is not an entirely new infrastructure, just a new AD domain with Exchange being built to replace an old AD infrastructure with a different email product. So backup, hardware, etc are already in place.
I may be missing something, but just to clarify; In a cloud based solution, what happens to the ability to send internal email if your internet connection goes down?

This is what I thought. Unfortunately, site is very remote and even though multiple ISPs sell services, they all go back through the same lines. So loss of service is always a concern for anything "cloud". This is good information though, thanks.

All excellent advice that I will take into account when planning this out. Thanks!
