Unable to relay to outside domains. Tried:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232021.aspx
Setting default domain on connector.
Still no luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've followed the steps indicated in that article. I need to email client confirmations from our website.
So now it is working? have you allowed your website ip address on relay connector?
ASKER
It is not working. The IP is allowed on connector. Sends fine to internal addresses. Won't send to external addresses.
Run the following command in Exchange management she'll.
Get-ReceiveConnector "YourRelayConnectorname" | Add-ADPermission -User 'NT AUTHORITYAnonymous Logon' -ExtendedRights MS-Exch-SMTP-Accept-Any-Re cipient
Note : replace your relay connector name with your relay connector name which you have created.

OK I discovered from the logs that due to firewall settings the relays were not being sent from the IP address I thought. Upon correcting this I was finally successful sending.
Glad to here from you, thanks for the update.
If you allow open relay than any outside spammers can use your domain to send spam mails, which will result other domain will blacklist your ip address to stop receiving mails from your domain.
I would strictly suggest you to create relay connector to allow specific ip address instead of open relay.
Please refer following article which will help you to create relay receive connector for specific ip address.
