Exchange Public folders to Office 365 Groups, good idea?
We'd like to get rid of our public folders. All users emails have been stored in the public folders by project for 12 years. I know it's not as good as journaling but this client insisted.
All users have Office 365 Business Premium or E3
I'm analyzing the migration tools such as ADAM and Binary tree E2E.
1 - As far as I understand Office 365 Groups is stored in Sharepoint, so we have to buy Sharepoint storage, it's not free.
2 - I'm not sure Groups has real backup capabilities or it's not easy to work with. Is there any third party backup system around. We want to keep things simple.
3 - What is you personal experience with Groups?
Thank you

PF are to heavy. It takes a lot of resources. Besides it's difficult to manage the mailbox size (100GB max) Above all we want something that will allow other people from other firms we're working with to access the same Group. I know it will be different: no sub-folders, not as straightforward in a way.
But as you said the management capabilities is lacking.
I thought Groups was visible in Outlook. That could be problematic.
If you know any other solutions in the Cloud please let me know

And what about the backup and retention in Groups?
thanks again
thanks again
Backup is Microsoft's responsibility. If you want point-in-time backups, you can look at some 3rd party products.
If you mean retention as in retention policies, they dont apply to groups. If you mean preserving content, you can use holds.

Groups lack many of the management capabilities you might be used to, plus the files can only be accessed via the browser (no direct access in Outlook). If you want to expose them as actual email messages, note that Groups only have a single folder visible to the user, no other folder or subfolders.
Office 365 supports PFs, so you should also evaluate that option IMO.
