Windows 8.1 basic - How to remove Microsoft's 'Your Upgrade is Ready to Install' message each time computer is switched on
Hi
Running laptop with Windows 8.1 basic. Each time the laptop is switched on a Windows update message stating 'Your upgrade is ready to install' is displayed. This message does not give you the opportunity to cancel the upgrade request or close the window. The only options available are a) Schedule it for later or b) Start the upgrade now.
On this particular laptop, I do not want to upgrade (I think it's to windows 10) and would like to stay on windows 8.1.
I've edited the registry as per the following Microsoft link - https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/3080351/how-to-manage-windows-10-notification-and-upgrade-options
This has not corrected the issue - Any ideas please
Regards

You could delete the upgrade setup files using the disk cleanup wizard. They won't be downloaded again.

Hi
Firstly may I thank you all for your prompt response.
Shaun Vermaak - I uninstalled KB2976978 (KB3035583) was not installed. Unfortunately, this did not resolve the issue on this occasion.
McKnife - Unfortunately, there were no upgrade setup files on the system
John Hirst - GWX Control Panel seems to have done the trick.
Regards

Thanks John
You are very welcome and I was happy to help
"Unfortunately, there were no upgrade setup files on the system" - the message indicated that there were. Did you click on the "clean system files" extra button as well? Otherwise, although your problem is solved, there will be some Gigabytes worth of setup files still lurking around.
So you maybe want to verify it again, see option 2 in https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3012-disk-cleanup-open-use-windows-10-a.html#option2
