Upgrading ESXI VSphere from 5.5 to 6

I have a new license for VSphere 6 and VCenter 6.  I'm about to install it on a few servers.  I already have an existing 5.5 VSphere which is in use.  I need to upgrade the ESXI.  Is there a way to do this without wiping out the entire server? I don't have an vSphere Update Manager server
