Old Xray equipment running on Win XP so can't upgrade to the latest Eaglesoft

Hi,

I help out with IT at a dentist office.  They're running Patterson Eaglesoft 16.  All computers are running Windows 7 Pro x64 except for one PC.  It's running Windows XP because it is connected to a Gendex X-Ray machine.  They asked me to update the Eaglesoft version 16 to version 18.  Version 18 doesn't support Windows XP.  Have you figured any creative ways around this?  Right now, the option is to either buy a new X-Ray machine for $18K or stay with version 16.  The Gendex X-Ray machine uses DenOptix 1.5 and we couldn't get the X-Ray machine working on a Windows 7 box.  I had a few different Gendex techs look at it and they just said that we'll need to stay with Windows XP until we replace the X-Ray machine.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

If the Eaglesoft MUST be upgraded then there is no other way.

Converting xp,to a vm at least let's it run on newer hardware. Plus, you can backup the the vm and move it to another machine if needed.
How does the X-Ray computer interact with Eaglesoft?  Does it have to run Eaglesoft in order to push the X-Ray files to it?  Can it run the old version while the others run the newer version?

Which model of Gendex?  Assuming a panoral at that price. Can you go via Twain using GxTwain as the interface?

Thanks for the suggestions!  I would have loved to go the VM route but I've had problems with port timing, etc in the past when I tried the VM.  I ended up staying with the current version 16 and only going with Windows 7 machines.  This should buy the owner 4-6 years to save the money to buy a new pano Xray machine.
No problem - try and gently steer them away from Gendex generally if you can :)
Thanks MASQ.  I will advise them on that.  What alternative would you suggest?  I know that they've been happy with Sota Imaging but I don't think that they have the pano XRay machines.

Thanks!
It may not matter here, but I'm not seeing how the VM is going to work around your basic problem.  It WILL allow you to run this on newer hardware and OSs (a benefit) but you'll still be running it on XP.  This does save you one (old) computer, but you'll still be stuck with the older version of Eaglesoft.

What is compelling you to move it off the XP computer?  If you are concerned about the XP computer failing or don't want to have another box around, the VM approach could work well.  Otherwise, I'm not sure I see the point.  As said, my lack of understanding may not matter in this case.
Have just moved almost completely to Soredex which has great open source support for image transfer but it depends on what your customer is using for their intra oral film solution - Sensors/Phosphor plates etc. As you know the pano machines are where the real expense is and you need something that will export in a standard format by default.
