free version of MSSQL for over 10GB DB

are there any free ways/tools to view the content of a mssql backup (bak file) which exceeds the 10 GB database size limit and therefore makes mssql express not an option. I also only have windows 7 machine in which to install the software.

You can also try the MSSQL 2016 Evaluation Edition that gives you full features for 180 days. Should be more than enough to perform the tasks that you want during those 6 months of trial period.

You can create more than a single database over 10gb in Express
In Microsoft minds, if your requirement is to have more then 10gb, it probably you are in a business that can afford paying for a database!
Excellent point Éric !!

you could install SQL 2014 on Windows 7.

many thanks
I have provided you latest 2016 version link. Pls try.
Hi,
From my first comment- Please try the latest version. I has lot of new things included. My favs like Json,R,String_split,etc.

<SQL 2016 - Latest version of MS SQL>

Please try this - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/sql-server/sql-server-editions-developers

Hope it helps!
but as per https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506(v=sql.120).aspx, only up to SQL 2014 is supported on Windows 7.
Hi,
Have you referred below url-

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/sql-server/sql-server-editions-developers

It says - < SQL Server 2016 SP1 Developer edition is now free >
I am not talking about the price. pma111 has a requirement of Windows 7.
Update - You cannot install MS SQL SERVER 2016 developer edition ON Windows 7 OS as this OS not supported. You will have to try for previous versions only.
this is what I have been saying since the beginning!
