Certificates in Windows Personal Store for Microsoft Azure VMware virtual disks to VHD
Hello Experts
I'm trying to convert my VMWare VMDK to vhd and upload it to my Microsoft Azure account. I have downloaded the Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter 3.0.
In order to convert the VMDK to VHD and upload it to Windows Azure I must have a Windows Azure subscription ID, certificate thumbprint, and storage account. A subscription ID uniquely identities your Windows Azure subscription. Windows Azure uses an X.509 v3 certificate to authenticate operations. I also need a management certificate for Windows Azure to authenticate my subscription ID on Windows Azure. The certificate needs to be present in Personal store and Trusted store of the current user.
I have a subscription ID, a certificate thumbprint, however I don't know how to place / insert the thumbprint in the Personal and Trusted Store
Also I'm not sure how to create and upload a Management certificate.
There is a link that is supposed to provide guidance https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cloud-services/cloud-services-certs-create but I can't see any examples showing where the Personal and Trusted Store is or how to create a Management Certificate.
Can someone please help me?
Cheers
Carlton

Hi Andrew,
Where you state
Where you state
You will need to enter your details; the following details will not work for you! The combination of the Subscription ID and Certificate Thumbprint, will give you secure access to the Windows Azure environment.I believe the Certificate Thumbprint needs to be in the Personal Certificate Store on the PC.
When the article was written it didn't! otherwise it would have had a screenshot, like that one...

OK, thanks
Would you therefore know how to add the Certificate Thumbprint to the Personal and Trust Store?

I'll need to check, the computer we used for the article, and check if a certificate was used.
I cannot remember that we used certificates which now seems to be a requirement.
Are there no certificates on the Portal, just download them, and install them on your PC, in the correct stores.

Hi Andrew,
I have the certificates but I'm not sure how to (or where to) find the Personal or Trust Store place them. I wouldn't know how to insert them

Double click them, and Windows will ask you. First time, select Personal, next time select Trust.
(click it again to put them in the other store)

Hi Andrew,
I managed to get it working by following this link
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/2977336/configure-an-azure-management-certificate-so-that-microsoft-virtual-machine-converter-can-migrate-vms-to-azure
One other question. Have you ever successfully migrated a physical machine to a virtual machine using Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter? Are there any other converters you would recommnend?

You can also do it from the MMC, and drag and drop the certiticate, after double clicking it, and Importing it when it asks you!
Yes many as per my EE Article.

Yes but that's the only product, unless there is another free one, and sometimes it can be hit and miss, but it is FREE.
