Windows PC's still connected to domain even though server/domain removed.

Hi

Prior to my involvement, client had 8 Windows PC's running either Windows 7 or Windows 10. Originally, these clients were part of a local Windows domain. They have now migrated to a cloud based hosted solution and the server/DC has been removed. Half of the clients now take part in a workgroup environment. The remaining still appear to be part of the now defunct domain. I guess they are using cached credentials to log on etc.

I'm in the process of removing them from the defunct domain and joining them to the local workgroup. Can you recommend best practice for this process?

My question is - How much network activity will these clients generate trying to locate the non existent domain controller? How frequent is this activity? ( group policy updates every 60 minutes etc.) Will this have an impact on the local network performance?  I understand that during boot time they are trying to authenticate their credentials with the server, possibly syncing the time, windows updates, applying group policy etc.

Clients have noticed a slight deterioration in network performance and I was wondering if this was a contributory factor.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Comments noted - I will remove remaining machines back to local workgroup and run the network bandwidth analyzer
