Home network with two AP's dropping WiFi connectivity

Hi,  I've a home network with a standard TPLink router, two Genius AP's and a Dlink switch -- I'm unable to get a consistent WiFi connection.  If I connect a cable from my laptop to the router I get a consistent ping success to 8.8.8.8 - however, when I disconnect the cable I'm seeing 60% timeout - this is when right beside the router and between the two AP's.  Other laptops throughout the house are seeing the same results. I can ping and connect to the two AP's.  Any suggestions re. solution/troubleshooting please?

Check the firmware is uptodate. Try other channels. If it is possible, disable "b" mode.

Thanks for your comments - I'll try your suggestions over the weekend.  masnrock - how would you suggest I check for interference?  The AP's are approximately 20 metres apart.
Because assuming these to be on 1 floor, that really isn't too far a distance for an access point unless there are lots of walls. What models are all of the equipment?
I have a Cisco RV 134 AC router in my basement and get good service on the second floor

I didn't have an opportunity to investigate fully - will be doing so on Tuesday and will revert then, thanks again for your comments
Any update ?
Ok so, I set the two AP's back to factory settings and reconfigured them to use separate channels.  The problem persisted.  I then moved them further apart but still saw large volumes of dropped pings.  In the end I shut one off and ran a cable from their current position in the attic to the second floor and I'm now getting a far stronger WiFi signal and seeing 99% success on pings (according to ping plotter).  Removing one AP from the scenario completely and moving the remaining one appears to have resolved the issue.  I'm not sure if the 2nd AP was interfering with the first or moving the AP closer has resolved the issue (or a combination of both) but the issue is now resolved.  Thanks to you all for your responses, I'll share the points as I feel a number of the suggestions helped me to approached and troubleshoot the issue in a logical fashion whilst also pointing me in the right direction.
Thanks again for your help!
You are most welcome
