Wired Network vs Wireless
We have a network running over four buildings (the buildings are connected via fibre) comprising of approximately 25 virtualised servers running a number of applications including a point of sale system, an intranet with a SQL back end, Exchange 2010 etc. We need to replace the copper cabling around the building and in the comms room. It has been suggested that we could go wireless instead of re-wiring the building etc. I don't think this is feasible, especially in terms of the comms area - I'm interested to hear others thoughts on same please.

how many people enter back and forth into an office during a day (and night) with access to printer ports, pc ports --- easy for any maintenance guy to drop a raspberry PI between a PC and the wall socket. And do you know where all your cables go from your PC to the data center?
and - yes, any proper wireless system would recognize any fleet of PCs trying to connect and would blacklist them for connecting.

Thanks to you all for your considered and very helpful responses.
Asking a question like this is a bit like throwing rocks into a bees nest! Sorry If I've come off disrespectful to any other the other participants. But - as with all networking - or server setup - not properly set up, it's both insecure and unreliable, but nowadays you can set this up robust in both security and performance context.
Also - never underestimate the insecurity of wired network, only based on the fact that it's only accessible physically, thus secure.
But if you go Wireless, choose a proper vendor. I'd recommend looking into Aruba Instant APs with Cloud based controller, or the models based on on-prem controller. They are pricey - but proper.
Cisco or Cisco Meriaki, Aerohive ++ would also fit the bill for you

Wireless as come a far way, I would under no circumstances run my backbone on wireless even though theoretically you can with the right setup, but I would take the nose dive into wiring the building and upgrading at the same time. Wireless for portables is great with wap2 AES enterprise, and radius authentication.
