Office 365 - Recent Documents lost after subscription renew

Hey there,

Microsoft just forced me to renew my Office 365 subscription so I could continue using it. After I did, my recent documents - which I rely on for efficient workflow - have disappeared.

Is this normal behavior? Is there a way to recover?

Figures this issue would occur on a day I have a deadline. ;)

Thanks,
Steve

Are you logging on with the same email address you used previously?

Maybe try logging off and logging on again from one of the apps. For example, open PowerPoint to a new, blank presentation and then choose File | Account. You can sign out there. (Of course make sure you know your password before signing out!)

Hm....when I started my subscription, my email address was (e.g.) Steve1@yahoo.com. Now, I use (e.g.)Steve2@yahoo.com.  But, I was able to renew on Saturday with the new address, without any indication (that I saw, anyhow) I was creating a new account. Does that tell you anything? Thanks!
I wonder if you did indeed create a new account.

Maybe try logging into the Office dashboard and share your installation with your other email address? I think www.office.com/myaccount should get you there.
OK, thanks. In the middle of a project at the minute, but will try later this afternoon. Thanks for your help. Just need this issue to be fixed by the start of work tomorrow. :)
OI, took a break to check that page. I see this screen...where do I go from there? Thanks.

I don't know. Looks like you have the type of subscription where you can install on only one machine, so you can't share it as I was thinking. But this isn't either of the yahoo addresses, so I'm very confused now.

Can you change email addresses (or add email addresses) in the Manage Account area?

If not, I'd probably hit the Ask Support link there to the right of Manage Account.
Apologies for the confusion. I used the Yahoo! address as an example. (In fact, I intended to scrub my personal email from that screenshot. Oh, well. : )

I don't see anything about an alternate email. So, looks like I may have to Ask Support. I'll keep this question open though, in case I need to follow-up with you. Thanks so much for your help on a Sunday! :)
Yeah, I kind of think they may need to change your email address on this account back to your old address.

Can you log onto OneDrive using your old address so you can at least access your old files?
Echo_S,
OK, maybe I wasn't clear.  These files are on my hard drive, so I was referring to the list of recently used local files. I can find them by navigating to them. It's just a bit annoying b/c it's more keystrokes, and I might have to remind myself where a particular file is located.

I do not use One Drive.

Thanks again, and apologies for any confusion :)
ah, I see.

That's related to the account you've signed in with, so I think it's relying on the email address. You could try signing out and then in with the old email address as described above -- but I don't know if you can actually do that or not with the type of account you have. (I have the one where you can share the account, so I can't easily test for you, sorry.)

Ah, try this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12407/manage-aliases-on-your-microsoft-account

Sign in to the Microsoft account website. http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkID=71369

Select Your info.

Select Manage how you sign in to Microsoft.

Select Add email or Add phone number.

Follow the instructions to set up and verify your new alias. If you chose Add email, you have the option to use an email address that you already have, or you can create a new Outlook.com email address.

After you add that email alias, you should be able to change it to the primary log-in if you want.
OK, I'll try that later. Will be a good little late afternoon/early evening task that requires little brainpower! :)
Thanks again.
OK, should I log on with the old email or new?

Thanks.
#Echo_S:
Follow-up. I clicked on your link. It appears I'm already signed-in as it displays my new email address. However, when I entered my old email as an alias, it told me that address is already taken. :(

As I think about it, makes sense b/c there must be some previous account (which may have those existing recently-used-files) stored somewhere. So, I'm wondering if the solution here is to simply (or maybe not-so-simply) transfer the info from the old account to the new.

Thanks,
Steve
Thanks, Kyle, for saving me from myself! :)

Thank you, Echo_S. As it tuns out, though the natural course of my workflow, many of my files have reappeared, and I've pinned the most important. So, at this point, not worth my time to deal with Microsoft.

That said, I want to credit you with your help. OK if I tag your most recent comment as the Best Solution?

Thanks!
Gotcha. I'm glad things are getting back to normal for you without a lot of additional hassle. Hopefully next time renewing as opposed to new-accounting will be more straightforward, but I wouldn't count on it! :-) I know I've had to look up how to renew using a specific discount renewal code I'd received (rather than being charged as usual), and it was a hassle.

Anyway, I hope it's easier next time, and sure, feel free to mark whichever response seems to be the best advice. Appreciate it.
Thank you. Another annoying thing here was that the warning message I'd been getting for a while said nothing about account-about-to-expire. Just (as I recall) that there was a problem. :(  As to the next renew, I'm hoping that if I keep paying on time, then I won't have to renew.

OK...back to some real work now...:)
Thank you again.
