Create auto reply server side rule in Exchange 2010

Hi there,

I need to create a server side rule to automatically acknowledge incoming emails. This is a shared mailbox, using Outlook 2010 and Exchange 2010; the rule has to work regardless of the mailbox is open in Outlook or not. Please let me know if you need any additional information.

Thanks!

Thanks, CompuProbSolv. I must be missing something, I can't seem to find the server side rule option in Outlook 2010 (only client rule is available).

Thanks, let me give it a shot and let you know.
Please see the attached screenshot, I don't see the option to save as server side rule. Is there anything I need to enable on the Exchange server? I've logged adding the mailbox as Exchange admin and the common user account same issue. I Don't see the server side option even for a domain admin account outlook profile.

There is no option. As stated in one of my previous replies if the rule requires Outlook to be open you will be informed that it is a client side rule. If you are not notified then the rule is server side. This is automatically set by the system.
Yes, I got a prompt at the end that it is a client side rule. This won't work for us because the Outlook is not going to be running always for the shared mailbox. How do I make sure this rule rules at all times, regardless of Outlook running or not?
Unfortunately there is no way to control this. Some rule options do not need Outlook so it is a server side rule while others option does making it a client side rule.
no problem, I am using my domain admin account and when I create a auto reply from my account I am also getting a client side rule, there is no server side rule option. what am I missing please.
Thanks, let me look into this article.
Thanks everyone for your help on this question. I am able to get this working after enabling the "Allow automatic replies" option on the Exchange server, please see the attached screenshot.
Did not even think of that angle. Nice one
