Trouble enabling network for Hyper-V client

Hi All and thanks for your guidance.

I created a VM, and mounted it in Hyper-V and having trouble getting network connectivity for it.

I'm using Hyper-v in Windows 10., and the client is running Windows 7.  The VM starts without issue.

I have created an external virtual switch that refers to the host NIC and both the client and host NIC adapters are set up with static IP and DNS.

How can I debug this and/or set this up to connect?

Thanks.

OK, so let's look in this

Host
IP               169.254.38.135
GATEWAY 192.168.254.254
DNS           192.168.254.10
                   192.168.254.254

HOST
IP               192.168.254.31
GATEWAY 192.168.254.254
DNS           192.168.254.254

Client
IP               169.254.38.135
GATEWAY 192.168.254.254
DNS           192.168.254.10
                   192.168.254.254

First. What is DNS 192.168.254.10 if you have only router in network so Your DNS should equal to your gateway 192.168.254.254
Second.  If you Network Subnet is 192.168.x.x your clienet workstation has  169.254.38.135 - so it's completely different SUBNET.

Try match your subnet IP on client, with your host. Set it for example:

IP              192.168.254.90
MASK        255.255.255.0
GATEWAY 192.168.254.254
DNS           192.168.254.254
                       8.8.8.8

Run CMD as Administrator ipconfig /flushdns

Let see what is going to happens.

Hi All

Out of town for 10 days and back now.  Sorry about inaction.  I will look into all this and report back.  thanks
my usual mistake not type 1 but generation 1 Virtual machine
Thanks, David

As it turns out, after repeatedly failing network on this vm, I was able to successfully establish network by following this guidance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwLxMzv6cus

The guidance was associated with a VM startup failure 32778, but in this case pertained specifically with the Virtual network switch.
Thanks all.  Frustrating experience, but up and running now.
