Internal Server Error on 1&1 Apache Server running PERL

Help!  Loosing faith in humanity here!  On Sunday evening my leased server started displaying 'Internal Server Error' messages on all sites running server side scripts.  The host, 1&1 have thus far been unable to fix it or send me an email to tell me what they're doing, but that's another story.

In desperation, I tried my own experiment.  I created a root folder called 'test' and created a new subdomain which I pointed at it.  I then created a cgi-bin folder in the new folder and dropped in a showenv.pl file, set permissions etc etc  If you call http://test.tccdev.com/cgi-bin/showenv.pl, all works exactly as expected.

I then took a pre-existing subdomain, created weeks ago, and pointed it at the same folder expecting the same result - all would work but no.  If you call http://newsite.whitby-cottages.net/cgi-bin/showenv.pl, Internal Server Error!

To my mind, this indicates an issue with the domains themselves but to this point, 1&1 have been unable to fix the situation - does anyone have any ideas what this might be?

Do you have access to the webservers logfile ? Without it, it might be painful. Uwe
