Display on external monitor

I have an ASUS laptop. Running windows 10. I have an external monitor Samsung S24B300. It seems like to the monitor is trying to show image larger than the monitor so the edges are cut off. How do I fix this?

You should lower the resolution on the laptop so it will display on the monitor.

What is the native resolution of the laptop?  and what is the native resolution of the external monitor?

John,
native is 1080 X 1920 and that is what it is in now. What do you mean by changing it to lower, 1680 X 1050? When I tried that it showed everything but substantial part of the left and right sides of the screen are blank.
My own screen here is 1920 x 1080

The first lower step for me is 1366 x 768

1680 x 1050  different aspect ratio.

Try 1366 x 768

or 1867 x 1050 (I don't have this one)
Also 1920 x 1080 is native for the laptop. What is the same native resolution for the monitor?
It doesn't matter what is native resolution. It's about resizing in video card properties according to resolution to set for particular monitor.
I was just asking for a starting point. It appears the monitor and laptop might possibly be different aspect ratios.

Jess - did you try 1366 x 768 ?  What does the external monitor display?
