Passive Exchange Mailbox Database copy is failed and suspended, so how?
This is using MS Exchange Server 2010. This is a DAG, with 3 Exchange nodes, for 1 mailbox database copy. However, the 2 passive database copy were found in the state of "Failed and suspended", although the active one is working fine. Please see attached diagram.
I did attempt to "Suspend", then "update to reseed", however, failed to get the database copy up. Please see the steps I conducted:
a. Check the database status:
get-mailboxdatabasecopysta tus -identity pore
* it shows 2 passive copies failed and suspended
b. On AExch3, type "suspend-mailboxdatabaseco py -identity "pore\aexch3"
* no effect of the command since the copy is already "suspended"
c. On active database copy server - GExch1, do the following:
- restart MS Exchange Replication, Exchange System Attendent, and Exchange Information store services
d. OnAExch3, do the following:
- restart MS Exchange Replication, Exchange System Attendent, and Exchange Information store services
e. On GExch1, run the following command:
- Update-mailboxdatabasecopy -identity "pore\aexch3" -sourceserver gexch1 -deleteexistingfiles:$true
The command is working. It shows the progress, but it advanced in a slow pace. It took about 1 hour to complete 10+ GB. After that, the source server - GExch1 was found down, and the replication has to be halted.
I heard that there is a way to do it "offline". How can have this passive db copy up and complete without the risk to affect my exchange server and network?
Thanks in advance.

This solution is only available to members.
To access this solution, you must be a member of Experts Exchange.
If you have separate NIC for replication, use that one. In case replication NIC fails, Exchange automatically switch over to Mapi Network. There is no harm in using Mapi network for replication.

Thanks for expert - Amit in pointing out that the normal replication is the way to go. At the end, my co-worker started the replication for new passive mailbox database copies, and all are working in sync after almost 5 days for replicating 600 GB db.
Many thanks to get the issue resolved.
