Server 2016: DNS on the server or router? Advices?

Hi,

We are about to deploy a new 2016 Windows Server. We are wondering what is the best practice for configuring a DNS? Should it be configured on the server or on the router? Pros and cons?

Would appreciate your inputs on this one.

Cheers,
A.

Can you give us a little more information on how you've configured the new 2016 Server and what roles you have installed on it?

Hi David,

It will be a simple set up. A main server with half a dozen of workstations. The servers main function will be a DC and File Sharing (we are also going to set up Anywhere Access). They will also host a third party app on the server which will act as a database storage. That's pretty much all.

We want to ensure the network performance is the best it can be so hence the question.

Cheers,
Arthur
