Windows 10 reset
Hi Experts,
I have a DELL Inspiron 15-7568 and I wanted to do a factory reset.
Within Windows I went to Reset this PC, I confirmed to erase everything, the laptop rebooted and it took 20 min to get to 99%, but it is at "Resetting this PC 99%" for 20 hours.
I read online that the 20 min is normal, but 99% could take up to 10 hours, not 20.
Any advice? If I were to shutdown, I imagine that I don't have access to Windows, so how can I restart the reset and how long should it take?
Thanks

Yes, you can still download the iso and use that.

You have to select "create installation media for another PC" when you run the utility, select the language, Edition, and architecture, then "Iso file". That will download the iso and when the file is on your PC just use the first tool in the first link I posted to create a bootable USB stick from the iso.
I am referring to the inplace upgrade repair process so that you do not need to reinstall applications
The Asker wants a fresh installation, or factory reset, rather than an upgrade or repair.
I was asking out of interest.
I haven't needed to do that, but you'd then probably just run the setup program which is in the iso you have downloaded from within the OS you want to do the repair from (don't boot from the media).
Doesn't work but will check. I am highjackin OPs thread

Can I not access the Dell partition with pre installed drivers?
You should be able to but that will be a factory reimage so back up first. I am assuming the recovery partition is not damaged.
If there is such a partition (With Windows 10 usually PC's don't use recovery partitions anymore)chances are that you get an older release of Windows 10, which would mean that after the restore it would take very long for the updates and new releases to get downloaded and installed. If you use the latest available iso things are a lot faster. Besides that you won't have the Dell bloatware included.
There is a Recovery Partition on my X1 Carbon, but I think you need the Lenovo USB supplied key to activate the partition. I do not know if Dell is similar.

How would I access the recovery partition without going to Windows
For my machines, I have a bootable USB key supplied by the manufacturer that does this.

why do you want to do a factory reset? if you have hardware problems, a reset won't fix it!

Isn't everything preloaded on a separate partition?
