Outlook 2010 no longer printing emails

I have an interesting problem which just happened this morning,   I have approx. 24 workstations all with Windows 7 pro (64bit) and using either Outlook 2010 or 2013 to connect to a hosted exchange server.
No changes have been made to Outlook and everthing has been running fine for quite a while.
Now for some reason, about 2/3 or the workstations can't print emails.  They receive the following error message:

"The connection to microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be connected to complete this action."

This makes no sense since the workstations are connected, Outlook says it is connected to exchange in the bottom right corner like it should and are able to send and receive emails.
While trying different things to resolve this I did discover that if you put Outlook in "Offline" mode, the emails would print.

Also I found that when composing a new email, the same error message would come up if you attempted to use the "address book".  If you just typed in the name, everything works fine.

I have not been able to find any ideas on what might be causing this, so I need some help.

Thanks

xtermie,
Thanks for these suggestions.  I really didn't have to try them because, as it turns out, the problem was with our hosted exchange server.  After I was told there was no problem, the problem went away.
You have given me some things to look at the next time I get a weird problem
Thanks
Ken
