Oracle encryption
hi all,
MS SQL server has TDE, column encryption and a lot of other OS level encryption.
I know Oracle has tDE too, but what else encryption oracle has ? step by steps to implement this also welcome,.
I want to see how Oracle play a role in PCI Compliance.

"Unfortunately, like your other questions, there really isn't a step by step guide."
ok, forget this part.
"Many of the products are available under the separately licensed Advanced Security option"
even tuning on a encryption for Oracle needs a separate cost ?

It depends on what encryption product you choose.
I believe the DBMS_CRYPTO package comes with your normal license. You can use that and create your own encryption product.
TDE is part of Advanced Security and requires a license.
Think of Oracle as a new car you are buying: If you want the premium sound system, it is an additional cost.

$$ Again ! that's why a lot of company switch to MS SQL.

MS SQL don't have this kind of thing, except some special/extra tools. it is a one box single license model. only cost CPU core / server+ CAL model.

Why pay for stuff you may never need?

I see a lot of people make this claim. I'm still not convinced SQL Server is that much cheaper than Oracle.
You need to compare the two feature to feature and dollar for dollar. I'm betting they are comparable.

good statement, but if it needs, which banking for example need, if each feature need extra budget, big boss will say why we don't consider it at the beginning, that's why a lot of company I worked with don't go with Oracle any more or just do server consolidation, save cost.

it is ok, we shouldn't focus on this. big boss seeing big cost is not going to happy man !

This is why you need to be clear about the requirements before you even get to cost and ordering.
If you know you will need column level encryption and things like data encryption at rest, you price out the software to do that.
If someone ordered software without the necessary features and you need to add them later, that isn't the fault of the software provider.

actually when we really has to do it, we will need ALL, no one brave enough to say we only need this but not that.
no one even brave enough to say we need money again ! this is what all these people scare about Oracle.

so data only has one method ? so as communication?
so for data, just TDE ?
but for thsi link:https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E63029_01/books/Secur/secur_dataencrypt001.htm
it seems not for DB, but other application like web application? for this link is for network encryption ?
