Password Protect Network folders
I am interested in Password protecting network folders. I am running in a peer to peer setup. The shared folders are on a Windows 10 PC and the other PCs are Windows 7.
I just tried a trial of File Locker by newsoftwares.net. It works, but it requires you to create a locker and access the folders from a locker. Also their only support is via email.
I would prefer it to be more invisible, so when a users opens the password protected folder, they are then prompted with a password.
Is there a way to do this? I will be happy to by something that works the way I want it to.

Since you are in a workgroup, authentication has to be on the machine that is sharing the files. For each group of folders you want to limit access to you have to create a username / password and in the ntfs permissions allow that user access and of course add your user account and remove authenticated users. For ease of use I always use ntfs permissions but allow share permissions to be read/write access for the account 'everyone' . This way I only have to look in 1 place when adding/changing permissions
