How to search all of Group Policy for reference to a server name?

Hello,

I am currently retiring a file server (FS-old) and replacing it with a new server (FS-new).  Amongst other things, the file server contains a number of scripts and MSI's which are referenced in GPO's.

I would like to find a way to search all of group policy for any reference to the "FS-old" server so that I can update the paths as I move the scripts/MSI's etc and ensure that I dont miss any.

I believe that it might be possible to do with a PowerShell script, but I would need some help getting started with this and adapting it for my needs.

Thanks

Thanks, that looks like it could do the job but I cannot get it to work.  I am getting "no matching files were found".

Am I doing something wrong?  This is my command:

Open cmd prompt, change directory to:

c:\Windows\SYSVOL\sysvol\MYDOMAIN.com\Policies>

Run command "C:\strings.exe" *.* | FindStr "FS-old" > c:\out.txt
Browse to c:\Windows\SYSVOL, it will then include NETLOGON too

Thanks guys, that looks great.

Before I close this question, is there an easy/quick way to check which friendly GPO name matches the unique identifier in the SYSVOL folder?

Its OK - to answer my own question I can see this can be done with the search function within GPMC.

Thanks for your help :)
