HP Printer on Windows 2003 Terminal Server

I have an HP Color Laserjet M252dw printer that is connected on a user's Win7 64 bit PC via USB and shared on the network.

However, when I try to add the printer to our Windows 2003 Terminal Server (a virtual server setup in HyperV), it says the driver is incorrect. Our TS is 32-bit, so I did the "additional drivers" option on the PC and installed a Win7 32bit driver for the printer. I was then able to add the printer onto the TS, but it still did not print.

What happens now is when I open printer properties, it gives me a message saying the driver is not installed on this computer. If I click Yes to install the driver and then select the PCL6 driver, it acts like it goes through but does not. If I try to manually update the driver, it gets to the end and then says it does not match my system architecture. I download the driver straight from HP's site and all they have available is the PCL6.

Now here's the wild card - We have another user with the exact same printer but his is connected via network cable with an IP. I can add that printer just fine to this same terminal server. Same drivers, too. Any suggestions?

I'm getting ready to tell my techs to just go run a network line to the printer and be done with it. We've been troubleshooting this for a couple of days now.

Yes it is a DOT4 port. I just read that it is not supported by 2k3, but there may be some workarounds but only for XP. Is this correct?

I haven't tried the TS Printer Redirection Wizard but if what I am trying to do is not supported, then there's no need.

2K3 can handle DOT4 but only on the server, the Wizard would be useful if only to see the error/event codes that the attempt at a redirect are throwing up.

HP recommend the UPD driver for the M252 in TS/Citrix/XenApp

We ended up connecting it to the network then added it to the server that way, then everything worked via RDP. We just didn't realize that the DOT4 wouldn't work in 2k3. Thanks!
