Access Changing Number to Date with Seperator

Hello,

Relatively new to Access and have a date column being imported from an Excel spreadsheet.  The column shows the date as 1212017 (for December 1, 2017) and I need it to show as 12/1/2017 in the query.  Any advice on how to make that happen?  Thanks!

I just checked with the end user and the original file is actually a csv.  He was converting it to an excel worksheet.  Based on it being csv how do you recommend converting it?  Im not familiar with input spec.

and for January 21, 2017 it would be?

First stop is whether or not the date is always 8 characters because if it isn't, you are SOL and will not be able to convert the data at all.  You have to change the settings as in the picture and make sure that the problem fields are defined as dates.

This got me where I needed to be.  Thanks.
