Can't transfer contacts in my iPhone to Outlook
Hi,
I connected my iPhone to iTune. I saw my iPhone icon in iTune. I clicked the phone icon and clicked on "Info" in left window pane. The I saw Sync Contact with "Windows" and I selected "Outlook". I also checked the checkbox for Sync Calendars with "Outlook" as well. After sync is done, I opened my Outlook and did not see a single contact there.
What went wrong?

So if outlook contact does not have any names, what happens to existing contacts/names in iPhone?
It should working both ways, but sometimes is not and a lot of people reporting this issue
Sometimes iCloud is interfering
so please try:
Go to your iPhone >> Settings >> iCloud Settings >> turn off contacts (pop up will come whether you want to keep data on iPhone which you should, as you don't want to remove any data from iphone) once you are done you will see the tab of Sync Contacts with Outlook in your itunes.

So if there is no entry in outlook contact is empty and a bunch of entries/names in iphone, then what actually happens when you sync?
Try disable iCloud and try synch again.

I already had signed out from icloud before synching.
You said this feature was to transfer contacts from Outlook to the contacts in iPhone. Are you sure about that? I found a ton of articles like this and they all said that it was to transfer contacts from iPhone to outlook. Please check out this link.

The reason I posted this question was because all contacts have disappeared from iphone after the sync. I do not know how this happened?

Open Outlook, and go to Contacts and make sure there is only an Outlook Contact folder showing. If you added another Outlook account recently, it may have overridden Outlook Contacts. Do the same thing for Calendar. Put another way, make sure in Outlook you do not have foreign accounts and that Outlook is the default.

I re-added my Hotmail account to Outlook (the Outlook connector change in 2017). When I did that Hotmail Contacts and Calendar (nothing there) showed up in Outlook. Even though I unchecked them, sync to iPhone delete everything.
I deleted the Outlook Hotmail account, restarted Outlook and sync'd again and everything is back.

The contacts on iphone have disappeared after synching. After recovering them, I will look into it. I do not know if it happened as a result of synching or because I signed out of iCloud account before syncing.
When you signed off from iCloud this software asked you if you want to keep all contacts on iPhone.
Maybe accidentally you selected NO.

@Tom,
"Maybe accidentally you selected NO." --> Let's say that happened. But then shouldn't iCloud have a copy of all contacts?

Did you try deleting your Hotmail Account in Outlook to test (resync after you do this)?
